The Yellow Birch Tree, produces flooring that is very different in color and appearance.  The final appearance of Birch flooring depends on which part of the Birch tree it is obtained from.  Depending on how the material is graded and sorted, determines the final look.   Primarily, Birch is graded Select and Better, or country.   The select and better is very similar to the appearance of maple wood.  The country grade is two toned and very unique.  The term Red Birch comes from the interior of the tree, and is a process that requires grading as well as cutting the wood for length in order to produce a uniform reddish color.  Because the tree doesn't produce much uniform material, Red Birch is typically expensive, although one of the most elegant flooring materials used.
